Obituary for Billy Dean Vanderburg

Billy “Dean” Vanderburg was born on September 18, 1935, and died on May 23, 2016 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital. He the son of Olive N. Vanderburg and Lillie (Sterling) Vanderburg, born and raised in Shawnee, OK, before living out most of his life in Piedmont and Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest son, Mark Vanderburg, and his nine siblings – Troy, Woodrow, Lloyd, Orval, Odell, and Doyle Vanderburg, Helen (Vanderburg) Oxley, Lucille (Vanderburg) Mooneyham, and brother Bobby “Gene” Vanderburg. He is survived by wife Myrna Lawrence-Vanderburg of Oklahoma City, sons Kenneth and Terry Vanderburg of Piedmont, mother of his four children, Nelda Vanderburg of Piedmont, and daughter Susan (Ken) Pearce, of Newmarket, Ontario Canada, as well as five grandsons – Brian Fox of Spreckles, CA, and Ryan, Devin, Kyle, and Keith Fentie, of Strathroy and Toronto, Ontario, Canada and his Lawrence Family, Hugh and David, (Caren and Quin) Lawrence.

Dean worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas for 20 years, before moving on to many entrepreneurial opportunities, including owner of Hampshire House Carpet on May Avenue. His final career before retirement in 2002 was as a top salesman at McClain’s RV in Oklahoma City. Dean traveled to Europe, Puerto Rico, Alaska, and many other exotic places, winning the trips for top sales performance many times. He’s fondly remembered as a genuinely kind and tender-hearted man, with a great sense of humor. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Vondel Smith North Colonial Chapel.
