Jewell Edna Matlock-Fox was born on a snowy day, Jan 1, 1915 in Norman, OK, & went to rest in Heaven on a sunny Labor Day, Monday, Sept 5th, 2016 at Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 101. Jewell had served as a church secretary, a receptionist & dental assistant, President of Cleveland County Red Cross for 20 years, Civil Service Assistant for Cleveland County & member of Cleveland Home Extension Club. Her husband, Emil Fox, served as previous Mayor of Moore & Cleveland County Commissioner. Jewell also served in several positions in WMU/Baptist Women, including singing in the choir, teaching several Sunday School classes & helping with Vacation Bible School, serving as a cook & sponsor at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly & was active in First, Moore's prayer ministry until she quit driving at age 96. Jewell was a great teacher, evangelist and a centurion whose grandfather, Paul C. Lessly acquired land in the Land Run of 1889 in Cleveland County. Jewell overcame many obstacles throughout her life, including, surviving near death as a child with pneumonia, whooping cough & rheumatic fever. She also survived floods, the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, WWI, and WWII. An excellent seamstress, gardener & cook (cooking mostly homemade), Jewell was especially known for her homemade chicken & noodles, biscuits, breads, fried okra & homemade desserts, especially coconut cream pie! She was always a loving hostess to friends & family. Tenacious & strong, she left us with a great legacy of faith, love, hospitality, hard work and a gentle, forgiving spirit. She was a true "Jewell"!
