Garvin “Gib” Isaac Gibson went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the age of 89. He was born November 7, 1926 in Paden, Oklahoma to his parents, Samuel Valentine and Eva (Menke) Gibson. Garvin lived in Paden, Oklahoma until he was 17 years old, at which time the family moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma, where he met his first wife Martha Ann Gibson (Privette). While in Guthrie, Garvin worked at the ice plant with his soon to be father-in-law, Earl Privette until he was drafted in March of 1945, serving in the Philippines. Garvin and Martha were married and had two children, Carmen Gibson (Kelley) and Randall Gibson. Throughout most of their marriage, Garvin worked as an oilfield worker in various capacities all over the country including West Virginia and North Dakota. After Garvin and Martha parted ways, Garvin continued his work as a mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base, where he met Letha Helen Gibson (Burnett), the love of his life. Garvin and Helen were together until her death in 1995. Together they enjoyed a life of children and grandchildren punctuated by trips to California, family reunions, and various activities around the state. Together they also cared for two of Helen’s children, Ronald Beeson and Margaret Brand (Beeson) as they battled Huntington’s disease. This tragic battle created a lifelong passion in Garvin and he was an avid and active supporter of Huntington’s disease research and advocacy organizations. Garvin’s hobbies included working on small engines, fishing, and appreciating old time folk and country music. Garvin had a particular love for the music of Woody Guthrie and felt a special kinship to Guthrie having similar beginnings in dustbowl era Oklahoma. Garvin left school at the tender age of 13 to work with his brothers and father doing odd jobs and agricultural work. On January 29, 2002, Garvin was granted a veteran’s equivalency diploma from Moore High School, a very proud day in his life. Garvin spent his final years living at Rambling Oaks Courtyard Estates in Moore, Oklahoma where he had many friends and was well loved by the staff. Garvin was a lifelong member of the Masons and enjoyed and cherished the brotherhood and friendships he found there.

First wife and mother of his children: Martha Privette;
Son, Randall Gibson;

Son-in-law, Pat Kelley;
Step-children: Ronald Beeson and Margaret Brand (Beeson).

Daughter, Carmen Ann Kelley;
Grandson, Patrick R. E. Kelley;
Granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Kelley;
Step-daughter, Winalee Carter;
Step-son, David Beeson;
Step-grandchildren: Stephen Carter, Sara Carter, Rhonda Beeson-Green, William Beeson, Ryan Brand, Bryan Beeson, Barry Beeson and Bria Beeson;
Numerous great grandchildren.
