Obituary for Robert Charles Floyd

Robert Charles Floyd
Robert Charles Floyd, also known affectionately as Bobby, Bob or Sonny, left this world to join his heavenly father on Monday, January 9, 2017. Bobby was born the eldest son to Joe Floyd and Margaret Vickery Floyd on April 4, 1949 in Oklahoma City.

Bobby is preceded in death by his father Joe, his sister Anita and his beloved aunt Carrie. He is survived by his wife CeCe of Oklahoma City; his mother, Margaret Floyd of Eufaula; his daughter Karen Floyd of Oklahoma City and spouse Grant Brittan; his grandchildren Piper and Asa of Oklahoma City; siblings Sue Wilbanks of Bethany and spouse Carroll, Phillip “Skeet” Floyd of Norman and spouse Lisa, James Floyd of Okmulgee and spouse Carol, Nancy Winters of Eufaula, Jerry Floyd of Broken Arrow and spouse Marsha, Betty Floyd of Eufaula and Lisa Floyd of Eufaula. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bobby graduated from Eufaula High School in 1968 and attended college at Central State University, majoring in History. He served honorably in the US Army, serving one tour in Vietnam and achieving the rank of Sargent while he was in the military. At a young age, he learned to install flooring and carpet from his father and remained primarily in this business throughout his life except for a short period of time when he worked for the Frisco Railroad as an engineer. He married CeCe Thomas Floyd in 1984 and they lived their life happily together in Oklahoma City. Bobby was very proud of his Creek Indian heritage and in 1987, he and CeCe opened Intertribal Designs, a Native American gift shop. He was an accomplished artist and sculptor and several of his works are displayed in the State Capital. Bobby was one of the founders of the Good Medicine Society, an organization that addressed addictions among the Native American Community and founded the New Year’s Eve Sobriety Powwow for 22 years. For 18 of those years, Bobby and CeCe were chairmen of the Powwow, growing it to one of the largest of its kind in the state. He played football, baseball and ran track in high school, leading to a life-long passion for sports. For several years, he and CeCe sponsored Indian fast pitch and slow pitch softball teams as well as being vital members of a group that hosted the All Indian State Softball tournament in Oklahoma City. Bobby loved fishing and there were few things made him happier than being on the lake with a fishing pole. He loved to tell stories, had a great sense of humor and love to pull practical jokes. Bobby never met a stranger and got along well with everyone. He was a ‘dad’ and father figure to many of his nieces, nephews and friends and was well loved by all who knew him.
