Joy, 86, was called to her Heavenly home on Friday, February 24, 2017 in Kingston, TN. She was born September 10, 1930 in Amarillo Texas to Charles and Lillie (Jackson) Cassell. She graduated from Byng high school in 1948. Joy married the love of her life Clyde Matthews in 1953 & together they shared 58 years of marriage until his passing 2011. Joy loved her church & her Church family. She was a life long member of South Lee Methodist Church. She was a natural organizer & loved being involved in all church functions. This included leading groups & committees while holding various local & district church offices. In particular, she & Clyde led the MYF (youth group) from 1960-1975, the young adults group from 1976-1980 & finally the DMA (don't mention age) group from 1985-2011. Outside of the church she presided over the South OKC retirees group until leaving OKC in 2014. Joy was full of life & laughter, & will be missed by all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by:
her parents;
husband;
one sister;
one brother;
Her memory will be lovingly cherished by:
her son, Rick Matthews & wife Kathi, of Ten Mile, TN (previously of OKC);
Grandson, Joshua Matthews & wife Robyn;
Two great grandchildren, Ryan & Gracie Matthews;
One sister, Lenora Schuler;
One brother Donald Cassell,
& countless other loving family & friends.
The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the staff of Jamestowne Assisted Living center in Kingston, TN, for the wonderful care of Joy in her final years.
