Donald Ray “Don” Hopkins passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, after a short illness. He was 83 years old. Don was born on July 9, 1933 in Oklahoma City and grew up in Bethany, Oklahoma. He graduated from Putnam City High School and later Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts. In 1955, Don married Janyth Lee “Jan” Stanmire. Don served in the US Army, where he developed an interest in driving trucks, including his duty of driving OU Heisman Trophy winner Billy Vessels at Fort Sill. He worked in the freight industry for over 51 years and received numerous safety awards for his excellent driving skills and record. He retired after working for Freightways, along with several other freight companies, and later, Hobby Lobby. After he retired, he delivered meals to Seniors as a volunteer for Areawide Aging Agency of Cleveland County. Don was a member of Putnam City Methodist Church, and Amazing Grace Chapel. Just days before his death he stated that "The only hope for anyone is Jesus Christ". Don had a lifelong interest in cars, and particularly sports cars, and enjoyed restoring cars. He shared this interest, as well as his love of Oklahoma City Thunder basketball and University of Oklahoma Sooners football with his wife and children. Don was a diligent, hardworking provider and loved his family immensely. His family always came first, and his love and adoration for them was apparent to all who knew him. Don and his sweet spirit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by his loving family.

Brother, Leslie Hopkins of Long Island, New York;
Sister, Evelyn Beattie of Norman, OK.

Wife, Jan Hopkins;
Son, Donnie Hopkins of Moore, OK;
Daughter, Leann Hopkins of OKC;
Brother, Harold Hopkins of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
