Obituary for Leonard Ray O'Daniell

Leonard Ray O’Daniell was born June 10, 1934 to Thomas L. & Opal E. O’Daniell. He was called to his Heavenly Father’s home to sing in God’s choir on Friday, June 16, 2017. Leonard graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1954. He married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Ann Tarkington on June 6, 1954. Leonard served on the Oklahoma City Fire Department for 21 ½ years, retiring as a Captain in 1976. Leonard’s nicknames were “Ooddles” & “The Singing Fireman”, besides working as the Assistant Director of the Oklahoma State Firefighters Association, he worked with the Boy Scouts serving as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, & as an advisor he helped start the Oklahoma City Fire Department Explorer Post 20. He received the highest award a volunteer scouter can receive, “The Silver Beaver.” He coached his daughter’s softball teams & helped organize the Southside Chiefs Organization. Leonard served the Lord by leading the music in worship services in Oklahoma churches for over 40 years. In 1982 he was ordained into the ministry & began serving as Minister of Music at Brookwood Baptist Church for 16 years. He was a member of the The Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma, Southern Hills Baptist Church & an active member of the Oklahoma City Retired Firefighters Association. Leonard performed the opening song for the Oklahoma State Fair Rodeo for 30 years.

Son and daughter- in- law; Mark Ray and Tami O’Daniell;
Daughter-in- law, Diana O’Daniell;
Granddaughter, Ashley D. O’Daniell.

He is survived by his
Beautiful wife of 63 years, Virginia O’Daniell;
Son, David O’Daniell;
Daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Troy Duncan;
10 Grandchildren: Amy Speight, Justin O’Daniell, Andrew O’Daniell, Derek O’Daniell, Dana O’Daniell, Troy Duncan, Tyler Duncan, Trevor Duncan, Joshua O’Daniell, and Jerry O’Daniell;
18 Great Grandchildren and a 19th due in July 2017;
Sisters and brothers-in-law; Jane and Bill Kutz and Pat and Spencer Cline;
Many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
