Obituary for Joseph Henry Little

Joseph Henry Little passed away on July 4, 2017. Joe was born in Kansas City, Kansas on March 8, 1945. He was the youngest of five children of Mary and Mahlon Little. He graduated from Wyandotte High School and attended McPherson College.

On April 9, 1966, Joe was united in marriage to Janet Dennis, his Junior High and High School sweetheart. He asked Janet to marry him during her Senior Prom. They recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. To this union, two children were born, Joseph Todd and Tracy Lynn. Joe served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. After returning from Vietnam they made their home in Kansas City, KS where he was employed by Wilson Foods as an accountant.
During his time at Wilson’s the family was transferred to Marshall, Missouri and Ankeny, Iowa. They eventually moved to Oklahoma City in 1979, where they have made their home for nearly 40 years. While working full-time and raising his young family, Joe attended night school in Accounting for many years in order to gain his Bachelors Degree from Central State University in Edmond. Joe worked as a Controller with R and B and Taylor of Oklahoma and retired in 2012. It took just six months before Joe discovered retirement was not for him and his neighbor Whit Hamilton suggested working for ETI, a company that makes bucket trucks. He had the time of his life delivering and picking up trucks all over the United States. It was a job that he enjoyed more than any other in his career, allowing him to see the beauty of our country from coast to coast.

Joe loved “Big Band” music and was an accomplished percussionist from Junior High through College and also played in several church orchestras. A highlight for Joe was getting to record an album with Doc Severinsen. Joe had a beautiful tenor voice and sang in church choirs over the years.

He had a life-long interest in aviation and earned his pilot’s license while in his 50’s. He and his friend, Bill Picklesimer, bought a Cessna together. Joe loved giving airplane rides to anyone interested and when his grandsons were young, he would fly them to breakfast on Saturday mornings. Joe was also an avid runner and participated in several 5 and 10K races.

In recent years, he enjoyed spending time at the Rader Ranch working in the vineyard named after him that he and his daughter and son-in-law planted together in 2007.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Katherine and Sally. He is survived by his wife, Janet, son Todd Little and wife Jona; daughter ,Tracy Rader and son-in-law, Greg; Brother, Ivan Little; sister, Dorothy Brandt; Granddaughters, Gracie and Adeline LIttle; and grandsons, Camden, Cole and Cade Rader; along with numerous other family members and friends.

His quick wit, unwavering morality, sarcasm, adoration of family, discipline a mere presence will be greatly missed.
