Linda, 66 entered Heaven’s gates on Saturday, August 5, 2017 with her daughter by her side, softly singing Jesus Loves Me and holding her hand. The daughter of Doyle Alex & Ruth Phyllis (Weins) Nunneley, Linda was born March 26, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri. Graduating from Edison High School in 1969, Linda then continued her education at Oklahoma State University, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. Although she chose not to teach, in the truest sense of the word, Home Economics, there are several who would argue, saying that many sewing, cooking and life lessons were learned with Linda’s assistance.
For many years, Linda managed the Nunneley’s family business, Gifts Unique, located in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. During this time, she also became a Language Training Therapist and together with her sister, Lorna, became certified to teach a specialized reading and phonics program, Alphabetic Phonics. For a few years she taught students and adults to read within her home before taking a position as a reading teacher at Town and Country School in Tulsa. As the program continued to see much success in this home-based setting, Linda and Lorna developed a new reading program called Classroom Phonics that could be utilized within the classroom setting. Together they developed, marketed and traveled across the United States, hosting workshops that educated teachers and schools how to successfully use this new program to teach reading to children. They maintained this business for a few years and as it grew substantially, it gained the attention of Saxon Publishers, who eventually purchased the program from them. It was at this time that Linda moved to Norman, Oklahoma as the Reading and Phonics Coordinator for Saxon Publishers.
Several years went by as Linda and her daughter, Lindsay settled into their new home and church. Eventually Saxon sold out to another company and Linda took this opportunity to start a new chapter, owning and operating an all natural and homeopathic alternative shop in Moore, called Healthy Solutions. Linda enjoyed investing in people’s lives, offering healthy alternatives to what she felt were many dangerous chemicals and toxins in our environment. She provided foot cleanses, vitamins and scans to better understand each person’s needs for their body. She loved relationships and met many new friends throughout this new endeavor.
More than anything, Linda had a love for her family. When her only daughter gave her a grandson, Linda moved a crib in her shop and juggled both the store and being a full-time nanny. When grandson number two arrived, Linda closed up shop, still assisting people as they needed, with supplements and suggestions, out of her home, but focused more on becoming “Nina” to two blonde headed boys that had stolen her heart. If asked her greatest accomplishment and reward in life, there is no doubt for all who knew her, that Linda would have smiled and said that being a mother to her daughter Lindsay and Nina to four grandchildren was more fulfilling than anything else. Watching the relationship between mother and daughter, grandmother and grandbabies one could tell the love and adoration was mutual.

Linda’s greatest loves in life were the Lord, her family and friends; her church, animals and cooking. Involved in the Church of God all of her life, attending youth camp as a child, being a youth director for a few years at South Sand Springs Church of God – directing musicals and playing piano for services, it made sense that Linda would call Shartel Church of God her home church after moving to Norman. She continued her involvement for the last 22 years, serving in both the children and youth ministries, the women’s ministry and the adopt-a-college student ministry. There was a time that it was not uncommon for her to have a houseful of college kids doing laundry, eating meals and being nurtured in one way or another by Linda. Her philosophy was “the more the merrier” and as poor and sometimes lonely college kids, they were happy to oblige! She knew her way around the kitchen, loving to cook for others, and would often use her skills to prepare meals for church dinners. For fun she catered weddings and special events and even prepared monthly meals for three Gideon groups around the Oklahoma City metro area. If you were friends with Linda on Facebook, you know how she loved finding and saving new recipes to try out. She was an exceptionally kind-hearted and giving woman of God. She gave unselfishly of her time – opening her home to people in need; of her finances – offering assistance to both friends and strangers going through tough times. Linda was loyal and always there with a helping hand and generous spirit. She had a heart for choosing to see good in others and in all of life’s situations. She had many times in life that she could have been negative, or angry and instead she pushed on – choosing to focus on the future ahead and making the best of the situation. She had an amazing patience about her, yet also a spontaneity to be ready for adventure at a moment’s notice. Linda lived her life to the fullest, anxiously awaiting all that God had in store for her to experience.
Linda and her daughter Lindsay had an incredible bond and relationship. While Linda would be the first to brag on what an amazing mother, wife and person Lindsay has become; Lindsay would tell you that it is Linda who has been the single most important influence in her own life, shaping everything about her. Linda was always there as Lindsay’s biggest fan but also to provide comfort in times of need. She was a great source of wisdom, support and encouragement. Linda has provided an amazing legacy that Lindsay will continue to demonstrate throughout her own life; that of a bond between a mother and daughter.


Linda was preceded in death by her father, Doyle Alex Nunneley. She leaves behind her loving family: mother Ruth Nunneley; daughter Lindsay Farmer and husband DeTroy and their children Jaret, Jace, Emersyn, and Everly; brother, Dean Nunneley and wife Karen; sister Lorna Nunneley Simmons and husband Lynn; as well as seven nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and nephews. She was well loved and will be greatly missed.
