Obituary for Dorothy Nadine Stearman

Vondel Smith Mortuary at South Lakes

Dorothy was born in Rush Springs, OK to Robert and Gertrude (Reece) Walker. She was one of 8 children and was the last of her siblings to pass away. Dorothy spent her formative years growing up in Oklahoma City where she attended Capitol Hill High School. Dorothy married the love of her life, Herman Stearman, on February 15, 1944 and they were blessed with two children, David and Susan. Dorothy worked at Tinker Airforce Base in Avionics Instrument Repair and spent over 25 years there until her retirement in the early 80’s. Following her retirement she spent many years volunteering at the VA Hospital in Downtown OKC and she thoroughly enjoyed every minute she spent there. She enjoyed collecting different items such as dolls, commemorative plates and silver spoons from her travels. Her husband had a plentiful garden and she enjoyed cooking different vegetables that Herman grew. Dorothy and Herman were long time members at Southwest Baptist Church and members of the “Real People” Sunday School Class. The two had a joyous marriage and made many memories during their 70 years together until Herman’s death in 2014. Dorothy was a goodhearted woman and will be remembered for her kindness and gentle way. Although she is not with us anymore she will never be forgotten.
