Obituary for Helen June McLendon

Viewing will be Monday, October 30, 2017 from 4-8 PM, and Tuesday, October 31, 2017 from 4-8 PM with family greeting friends from 6-8PM at the funeral home. Services to celebrate her life will be Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery.


Helen June McLendon, 91 of Oklahoma City went to be with the Lord Saturday, October 28, 2017. She was born May 27, 1926 in Lincoln, NB to Floyd B. & Coye Peterson. In 1943 at 17 years old, she married the love of her life Glenn B. McLendon. To help support her family, Helen worked at Tinker AFB during WWII as one of the riveters. She later worked at a plywood mill in Oregon, until returning to Oklahoma City where she worked for Western Electric for 20 years. While she enjoyed these careers, her passion was working for Columbus Elementary as head cook. Cooking for the children brought her much joy & she retired after 15 years. While working, she remained a dedicated wife, mother & grandmother, always maintaining a warm loving home. A longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church & she taught Sunday school for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her:
parents;
husband Glenn;
son David McLendon;
sister Betty Rayburn & husband Lyonell;
& daughter-in-law Charlotte McLendon.

Those left to cherish her memory are her:

daughter Faye & husband Lane Stiger;
10 grandchildren; Troy & Ladawna McLendon; Scott McLendon; Brandon & Mary McLendon; Natalie & Chris Wiley; Shanna & Jeff Ritter; Tiffany Barnett; Amanda Candelaria; Larry & Tasha Shuffield; Kris & Beth Stiger; Marcy & Richard Rex
28 great-grandchildren;
three great-great grandchildren;
as well as a host of extended family members & loving friends.
