David Real, a man who was passionate about teaching creation science and loved teaching Sunday school, left the world and family he loved to be with his creator. With loving family present, his courageous battle against Lou Gehrig’s Disease ended on February 5th. Born May 22 1948, in Oklahoma City, he was 69. David enjoyed God’s great outdoors and often headed to Jackson Hole, Wyoming or to the Grand Canyon where he would spend time rafting through the Canyon on the Colorado River or ride mules down the Canyon’s steep trails. He also worked with horses and broke and trained hundreds of them. He took joy in hunting with black powder guns, killing numerous deer, a big black bear and a 400-pound-Russian boar. Being part of a movie called “Ride with the Devil,” a true story about civil war era, is also part of his lifelong resume. He also entertained others by playing bluegrass music with several different bands earlier in his life and was the lead singer in a gospel quartet called the JOURNEYMEN. They traveled to nearly every state in the U.S. One of his biggest passions was his love for the country of Israel, where he enjoyed visiting. He went to college at Ozark Bible College in Joplin, Missouri, where he majored in missions and got his degree from Southern Nazarene in 1992. Law enforcement also was a passion of David’s and he sought justice for victims of crime. He began his career working for Oklahoma City Police Department in 1969 and was a patrol officer for 11 years. He also was a part of the swat team for six years and a bomb technician for nine years. He was the first full-time bomb technician on staff. During a prison riot in McAlester, Okla., David told of how he was put into a helicopter with a sniper rifle when the inmates would not negotiate. Fearing for his life, he wrote out his last will and testament but ended up not having to use it as the inmates decided to negotiate when they saw the helicopter fly over the prison yard. He also worked undercover in El Reno, Okla., for seven months and at the Guthrie Police Department for six months. He then got hired by Barrow Alaska Police Department and worked for a year on the North Slope in eskimo villages. When he came back to Oklahoma, he worked five years undercover for District 6 Drug Task Force and then went to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) for 21 years. He worked homicides, auto-theft, and did polygraphs for 20 years. For six years, while David was at OSBI, he was on the Oklahoma State Polygraph board. David completed his meaningful career with the Attorney General’s office where he worked five years as an investigator and polygrapher for the grand jury unit.
