Walter and I have been good friends since the 3rd grade. We grew up one block apart. He was always kind and friendly.
Walter was a gifted athlete in several sports. If you knew Walt, you know he had huge hands. He was the first guy in 6th grade who could palm a basketball in both hands. This also helped in playing wide receiver on our state championship team.
Walter was the guy who would give you a nickname and from then on that was how he addressed you. Many of you are here today.
My nickname is Mahotna. I got that because I wore a hippie looking shirt one day to school and Walt labeled me Mahotna!
One day a bunch of us played golf together and Walter gave the announcers our names. On the first tee box, we were about to tee off and over the PA we hear, "Starting on the first tee box will be RJ Yo Web. Trail ripper. And MAHOTNA.
i will miss him dearly.
