Melba Gene Fox went to be with our Lord peacefully on Monday, August 20, 2018 at the age of 92. Melba was born on April 15, 1926 to her parents, Fred Lee and Esther Edna (Trench) Crowley in the Carl community, northwest of Vinson, Oklahoma. The family moved to Hollis in 1936 where Melba would attend Hollis High School and meet Don Fox. The two high school sweethearts were married on May 19, 1944 and together they shared 70 years of marriage until Don’s death in January 2015. Don always referred lovingly to Melba as his “walkin sack of sugar”. Melba and Don moved to Oklahoma City in 1956 and would eventually own three grocery stores where she worked alongside him in business for years. The couple were longtime members of Southwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City where Don taught a Bible study for 22 years and “Miss Melba” played piano in children’s church. The two served Christ for many years together by teaching Sunday school classes and hosting church parties at their farm in south Oklahoma City where they lived. Melba loved to sew and would make clothes and quilts for many family members and in her later years would make her own doll clothes and clothing for grandchildren. She continued to play the piano past the age of 90. Melba loved her children and grandchildren very much and insisted that every holiday was spent at her house especially at Christmas. She will be greatly missed by many. Melba was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Donald Frank Fox; their son, Fred Fox in 2013 and sister, Helen Overton. Melba leaves cherished memories with her loving sons: Jim Fox and his wife, Paula; Gary Fox and his wife, Sherry; Tim Fox and his wife, Toni; Tom Fox and his wife, Deanna; brother, Herman Crowley; daughter-in-law, Audra Fox; sister-in-law, Susan Fox; brothers-in-law: Tom Aday and Paul Aday; 17 grandchildren: Greg Fox, Kelly Fox, Charla Brown, J.P. Fox, Kerri Tyler, Mindi McNair, Shawn Fox, Tina McDougal, Brett Fox, Brynnan Fox, Britni Morse, Brielle Simpson, Bailey Hatchell, Makenzi Fox, Tanner Fox, Jacob Fox, and Calledonia Fox; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
