Obituary for Richard Duane Adcock

Sunday, January 21, 2018, Richard “Dick” Adcock passed from this earth into our Father’s arms.
The third of four sons born to Homer and Josephine McElroy Adcock, Richard was born in Rogers, Arkansas, October 2, 1934. He attended Rogers Public Schools, graduating from Rogers High School in 1952, with the highest 4 year average for boys in the senior class. Known as Dickie to friends and classmates, he earned his BS in Pharmacy from the University of Arkansas, Fayettville in 1956. He later received his Doctorate of Pharmacy. Dick worked retail for a few years in Arkansas and New Mexico. Deciding retail pharmacy was not his “cup of tea”, he joined the Geigy Pharmaceutical sales team. Dick excelled in sales, winning many awards, trips and contests. He was transferred to Oklahoma City with the new company Ciba-Geigy. After more than 35 years as a sales rep, Dick retired to become a Senior Convention Specialist and a part-time sales rep. Dick retired again to work as a staff pharmacist at various hospitals in Okla. City. In 2006 the University of Arkansas presented Dick with a medallion for 50 years of service as a Registered Pharmacist. Dick fully retired in 2014 to travel to Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas and New York to visit family and friends until failing health confined him to home.
After raising Douglas Adcock, Dr. Rebecca Adcock, Rick Adcock and John Everette and vowing to not date or marry a woman with young children, Dick met and married Lynda, his present wife of 28 years 8 months on Friday, May 13, 1989. That marriage included her children, Rachel Perrin, age 13 and Jeremy Perrin, age 6. Only a very special man with four grown children, and a very good sense of humor, would start over with a young family. It’s been a great marriage!
Wherever Dick lived, he was active in his church, civic organizations and community activities. He coached kids’ sports and was a camp counselor. Dick and his former wife fostered many children while living in Albuquerque, NM.
Dick loved, loved, loved to fish – his largest fresh water catch, a 28 pound stripper bass from Beaver Lake, Arkansas, and his biggest catch ever – a 127 pound halibut off the shores of Homer, Alaska. Dick played “at golf” whenever possible and enjoyed many hours in his woodworking shop.
He was Grandpa to Brad, Audrey, Malaya, Alexander, Josh, Lindsey, Rick Jr.; Gramps to Sierra, Jadyn and Baby Boy Perrin arriving this summer. He was Great-Grandpa to Lennon and Eleanor. Dick had many many nieces and nephews.
Dick was a loving husband, father and friend. He will be missed terribly, but we rest peacefully in the knowledge that he is healed, free of pain and is with those that preceded him in death – daughter Rebecca, brother Larry, former wife Carolyn Adcock and his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd Okla. City OK on Wednesday, January 31st at 11am. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Rheumatology Research Foundation, www.rheumresearch.org or
