Obituary for Dianna "Sue" (Wilkey) Latham

Vondel Smith Mortuary at South Lakes

Sue Wilkey Latham was born on May 7, 1942 in Shamrock, OK to Newell & Montie (Kanaday) Pittser. She graduated from Shamrock High School in 1960, where she played basketball for her school team. Shortly after graduating high school, she married John Wilkey. She and John lived in Texas for a short time, where they had their first son, Curtis. In 1964, Sue and John moved back to Oklahoma, and they had their second son, Michael. The family settled in McCloud, OK in 1975, where they raised their children.

Sue worked at Hillcrest Hospital for 34 years. She started in the business office and eventually was promoted to payroll supervisor, a position she held for a number of years until her retirement in 1998. She loved her job at Hillcrest, and she made many life-long friends there. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, fishing, and watching OU sports. She would take anyone who’d go with her to play bingo and for many years could be found at the bingo hall with her shiny, gold, one-of-a-kind bingo dobber holder a dear friend made for her.

Sue’s family was the light of her life. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, who called her Granny. Granny was always eager to attend school functions, sporting events, and birthday parties. She was thoughtful and generous, going on many a shopping trip for school clothes, a new coat, or a new toy. She loved family get-togethers and family reunions and rarely missed family gatherings. Sue adored her sisters, who were her best friends and confidants. She loved her nieces and nephews as her own and took great joy in watching them grow up and being a part of their lives.

Sue began a new chapter in her life when she married Lee Latham on March 22, 1997. They were married nearly 20 years until Lee’s death in 2016. Sue and Lee enjoyed their life together. They loved to travel and went on many trips together. They especially loved going to Las Vegas and went numerous times; they watched many a Super Bowl from the Riviera Hotel there. They also enjoyed going to the dog races in Kansas, casinos in Elko, and cruises all over the Caribbean. Sue loved Lee with all her heart and was a devoted and loving caregiver to him in his final years.

Sue was a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church, where she was baptized on February 8, 2015. She loved the Lord and enjoyed worshiping and fellowshipping with her church family. She especially looked forward to dinners and card games with her church group, and that was one of the things she missed most when she fell ill in the months before her death.

Sue was called to her heavenly home on February 5, 2018, after a battle with cancer. She was a blessing to many and will be deeply missed.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Newell and Montie Pitter, husband Lee Latham, and siblings Opal, Loeva, Newell Junior, and Ruth. She is survived by her children, Curtis Wilkey and wife Cindy of Checotah, Mike Wilkey and wife Janey of Meeker, and four step-children—Dallas, Mark, and Markel of Oklahoma City, and Russ Wenthold and wife Rita of San Antonio, TX..She also leaves behind two sisters—Wanda Sanders and Fern Humphries, both of Oklahoma City, and four grandchildren: Sarah Gordon and husband Delton, of Stillwater, Blaine Wilkey and fiancé Lorena Matlock of Oklahoma City, Kagean Wilkey of Shawnee, and Kortlyn Wilkey and fiancé Jackson Matthews of Shawnee. She is also survived by her great grandchildren--Myla Wilkey, Falah Wilkey, and Evan Gordon—as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones too numerous to mention.
