The son of William Jennings and Edith Goldie (Mater) Reed, David was born on September 22, 1934 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. David left his senior year of High School to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korea Conflict. After he returned from overseas, David studied and got his G.E.D. and then took advantage of his G.I. Bill and went to Barber School. From his first day of school he knew he had found his passion for Barbering. David’s first marriage produced three wonderful children Kenneth, Dawn, and Randall. He provided a warm and loving home for his family working as a Master Barber, instructor, and stylist, having worked in the industry for more than 58 years. In 1970, he married Patsy Tatum who was a Barber. They enjoyed many years together working side by side. In 1974, he opened the Style Shop at Crossroads Mall which he successfully owned and operated for 17 years before relocating to Reed’s Headquarters on SW 89th St. After 11 years of success, he decided to build a new house which included a private Barber Shop where he worked side by side with his sweetheart from the comfort of home. Throughout his nearly 60 years in the business, David served in many different capacities, including serving on the Oklahoma Barber Board which was an appointment by Governor Frank Keating and served under Governor’s Henry and Fallin, later he served as President of the National Barber Boards of America. David was a faithful follower Christ & had led many to know the Lord. He had a heart for missions and went on 9 mission trips to Africa.
