Obituary for Larry Dewane Calkins

Services held 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 3, 2108 at Heavenly Heights Baptist Church, 3600 SE 89th Street with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to the Oklahoma Heart Association or the Oklahoma Diabetes Association


Larry, 81, received his Heavenly reward on Februay 28, 2018. Larry was born June 19, 1936 to Robert F. & Olive (Shanley) Calkins at Lenora, Oklahoma, where he spent his childhood on the family farm. He met Patsy Wells on a blind date and they were married two months later on February 9, 1961 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Larry retired from Lucent Technologies in 2000, after 32 years, and was employed for 5 years prior at Otasco.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patsy; daughter & son-in-law, Elizabeth & Kelly Wagoner; mother-in-law, Lorene Searcy; grandchildren: Kathleen (Wagoner) & Will Wright, Stephani Wagoner, Talia (Adams) & Jim Abrams, William Jones & Christopher Calkins; great grandchildren: Elias, Emma, & Erin Wright, Claire Lollis, Logan Adams, Sebastian & Sally Hamm; and many nieces, nephews and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter & son-in-law, Susan Denise & Charles Jones; sisters: Margie Meyer and Juaquin Stuteville; brothers: Clyde L., Loran & Clifford Calkins; grandparents, Albert J. & Ellen (Bingham) Calkins and Edith (Harper) & Uriah Shanley; and by special friend, Dean Clark. Larry attended at Valley Center, where he graduated in 8th grade. It was a one room schoolhouse. In 9-12th grades, he attended Taloga High School and graduated there. Larry attended OSU in Weatherford, then attended & graduated from OSU Tech in Okmulgee. He enjoyed spending time with family, classic cars, fishing, hunting & traveling in their travel trailer. Larry was a faithful member of Heavenly Heights Baptist Church.
