Obituary for Don W. Waters

Vondel Smith Mortuary at South Lakes

Don was born in Bokoshe, OK to Dix & Mary (Burdine) Waters. He was raised in the areas around Arkoma and Bokoshe where he attended school and made many fond memories with his brother Herman, sisters, Velma & Lois and all of his friends.
Don was drafted into the US Army in 1952 and he served during the Korean Conflict. His main duty while stationed in Korea was to pass information regarding troop movement & location between the North and South Korean borders. He was honorably discharged in 1960 as a Corporal.
After his time in the service Don began his career with the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. He worked as a Warehouse Supervisor for nearly 30 years until his retirement in 1990. Don was a devout Christian and loved serving his church. He attended Trinity Assembly of God in his 30’s and served as the Church Secretary there. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Alice Juanita Bryant. They married in that very same church on December 9, 1970. Years later Don and his family became members at Faith Tabernacle and were very active members at the church for over 30 years. For over a decade Don served as an Usher at Faith Tabernacle and loved everything he was involved with in that regard. Anyone who knew Don was aware of his sense of humor and ability to make people smile with his one-liner jokes. He was also gifted with the ability to repair almost anything and he was a skilled woodworker. He built and repaired furniture, completed countless home improvement projects, and tinkered with just about anything that wasn’t working properly. Out of all of his traits, skills and favorite pastimes, his most cherished memories were made while spending time with his family.
