The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Walter Bean can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Band of Brothers

It's been just over a year since the last time I saw Walter.  And before that, it had been many, many years, but you would never have known it.  It's often said with good friends you can pick right up where you left off, never missing a beat...and that's the way it was with Walter.

He stopped by one afternoon, seeing that I was home at Mom's and we had a great visit!  He recalled the time he and my brother Tracy build an enormous "PC snowman" in the middle of Vermont Avenue, just steps away from our front door.  Did I remember?  Of course!  It was their senior year, and they were both wide receivers at PC where they had garnished the reputation of "having wings on their shoes and glue on their fingers."  Besides this, they were known for shenanigans, having been friends since grade school days at Coronado.  But as Walter beamed in retelling the story, he knew it was not the first time...nor the last...they would be covered by a local newspaper.

Another memory Walter wanted to talk about that day was hanging out in Tracy's old room, where he and "all the boys" played Tracy's drums while listening to Grand Funk Railroad, Journey, KISS, and Bad Company.  And, what about the pole vaulting pit?  Whatever happened to it?  Walter wanted to know!

It was as if he were a kid again!  We had so much fun reflecting on these memories. I was reminded of just how many "little brothers" I had when they were in Junior High School.  Not only Tracy and Walter, but Bill Shaw, Mike Waters, Dirk Ward, Gary Arnold, Greg Reagan.  Off we'd go in my 442 to track meets, football and basketball practice, and more.  Recently Tracy and I tried to recall if Walter was along for the ride when we rolled thru the parking lot of My Pi pizza one not-so-lucky night for some Prom-goers??  Yes, these boys were some kind of mischief makers, and I was their "get away driver!"

So many great memories of you, Walter.  You will always have a very special place in my heart.  And, I know that so many of your "brothers" feel the same way.  Until we see you again, buddy, much love follows after you.
