We met Morris at Crossroads Church many, many years ago and have been friends with him since. From the time we first introduced ourselves to him until the last time we saw him, he greeted us with, "Hello!" Even though we'd known him for years, whenever he would call, he would say, "Hello! This is Morris Velo." No introduction was even needed because we knew his voice so well.
Morris absolutely became a member of our family, sharing New Year's Day, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas celebrations with us each year in addition to sharing meals with us at different times. He attended church with us for many years, sitting right actoss the isle from us, until moving way up north in Oklahoma City, at which point he found a new church home that he really enjoyed.
Morris loved his cats and eating (not necessarily in that order, but close)! He could really pack the food away. Whenever he was over for a meal, we always made sure he took home a huge to-go box. Morris also loved talking about all of his computer equipment.
For most of the time we knew Morris, he worked in housekeeping at the Gaillardia business park. He was always excited to go to work. Even though his eyesight was failing, he was no longer able to drive, and he took a cab to and from work, we never once heard him complain. Morris could have easily gone onto disability and not worked, but he enjoyed his job and wanted to keep on going. We need more Morris Velos in this world! Morris had to be one of the friendliest, most upbeat people we'd ever had the privilege of meeting.
Morris loved to talk about his mom, Mary, and his sister, Angie. We got to meet his mom and share several celebrations with her...a truly delightful lady. Though we never met Angie, we knew she had to be special as well because Morris held her in such high esteem and spoke so fondly of her. They were both very dear to his heart as evidenced by the way he spoke of them.
While Morris will definiteily be missed, we're so happy that he is now in the presence of Jesus forevermore, whole and healthy with perfect vision, perfect breathing, no diabetes, and no longer a limp! When we see him again, which we will, we know we will be greeted with, "Hello! This is Morris Velo!"
