Services will be held at Crossings Community Church on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 11:00am followed by a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery in Edmond.

Dr. Mayo Gilson passed away at the age of 75 on September 21, 2018 after a courageous battle with a spinal cord injury. He was born in Dalhart, Tx. He was raised in Oklahoma City. He graduated from OCU and was in the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He obtained his doctorate in medicine at OU. He did his residency and internship in the Navy. He received commendations for his service. After his service in the Navy he had a successful private practice as an OBGYN in Oklahoma City. After retiring from private practice he continued to work full-time as a medical director, most recently for United Healthcare insurance. To maintain patient contact, which he enjoyed the most, he also worked weekends at an urgent care clinic helping the sick. During his career he served as president of the Christian Medical and Dental Society. He also went on mission trips to provide medical care to those in need in other countries.
He lived a full and adventurous life. He enjoyed scuba diving and at one point had a flying license. He played the violin. He loved traveling, golfing, fishing, and attending plays and sporting events. Most of all he loved his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He attended Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City. His favorite bible verse was Isaiah 40:31 which reads, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” We know that he has received ultimate healing and is now surely walking and running in Heaven with full strength.
He is preceded in death by his sons Brent and Glen Gilson, mother Elizabeth Gilson, and father Chester William Gilson.
He is survived by his wife Jane Gilson; his children Andrea Gilson Nolan, Ben Stevens, Sam Stevens, and Ruthie Stevens; brother Gary Gilson; sister-in-law Jeanne Gilson; sister-in-law Sondra Jones; brother-in-law Earl Jones; daughter-in-law Lori Gilson; son-in-law Brent Nolan; sister-in-law Sandra Schroeder; Janet Gilson; his grandchildren: Zachary Archer, Bryant Gilson, Katie Gilson, Abigail Nolan, and Amy Nolan; and many nieces and nephews.
Vondel L. Smith Mortuary will be providing the funeral services.
