Maria (Mimi) Dolores Sala Ramlow passed away on November 3, 2018 in Oklahoma City at the age of 81. Mimi was born on December 11, 1936 in San Juan, Puerto, and was raised in Arecibo, Puerto Rico until the age of 8. Her father, Dr. Juan Sala, was a prominent Puerto Rican thoracic physician specializing in tuberculosis treatment, and her mother, formerly Suzanna Miles, was a nurse who hailed from Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Due to World War II hardships, Mimi moved with her brother to Shippensburg, while her mother moved to New York City to seek employment, with her father remaining behind in Arecibo, and who died tragically soon afterwards. Looked after by her grandmother in Shippensburg for several years, Mimi rejoined her mother and her new husband and now Mimi’s stepfather, George Laster, in Cleveland, Ohio, when she was a teenager. Mimi attended Ohio University in Athens, where she met her future husband, Ronald (Ron) Ramlow, an ROTC member who entered the Air Force as an officer after graduating in 1956. Ron and Mimi eloped that year. As an Air Force spouse, Mimi followed her husband on various postings in Texas, New York, Maryland, the Philippines, and Arkansas over his 20-year career, and gave birth to two sons and a daughter. Following Ron’s retirement from the Air Force, Mimi and her husband settled in Garland Texas, where they lived for nearly 41 years. Mimi and Ron, who passed away at age 85 in February this year, were married nearly 62 years.

Mimi is survived by her son, Reed and his wife, Son Chong; son Clay and his wife, Brenda; and daughter, Sharon and her husband, Luke; and seven grandchildren, Spencer, Mackenzie, Sloan, Chase, Paige, Ryder, and Travis, and her brother, John. She was also close with one of her nieces, Kimberly, who resides in the Dallas area with her husband, Ed. Mimi was preceded in death by her parents, Suzanna and Juan, and stepfather, George.

Mimi will rest with her beloved husband, Ron, with a funeral service scheduled for Friday, November 23 at 9:30 am at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery at 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy in Dallas. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
