Obituary for Larry Darling

On April 24, 2019, Larry Darling, loving husband and father of two children and “GP” to four grand kids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the age of 80.

Larry was born in California to his parents Don and Ellen Darling. He moved to Oklahoma City as a child and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1957. After meeting at a New Year’s party, he and Ann Marts were married in 1960. Holding the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, he retired from the Oklahoma Air National Guard in 1993. Larry continued his Civil Service employment at TAFB until he retired in 1998. He then spent several years as a custodian at Emmaus Baptist Church which, he often said, was the best job he ever had.

Larry was a faithful husband and loving father who treasured and provided well for his family. He was honest and dependable, well respected, and never late for appointments. Most important to Larry was his faith in Jesus Christ and his willingness to share his faith at every opportunity. Just as important was reading his Bible every day. Over the years, using various translations, he read the Bible through many times. He loved history of all kinds and had a great memory for the information he gleaned from his reading. When writing, he usually needed help with spelling-but never with math. He was an avid six mile a day jogger for more than 40 years and was a familiar figure for many years at the track at Earlywine Park. It was a great disappointment when he was forced to give up this favorite activity. He often said running was his time for “zoning out” and solving problems.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leonard. Surviving him are his wife, Ann; his son, Don Darling; daughter, Jill Butler; 4 grand-kids, Grace & Ava Darling, Caleb & Henry Butler. He also leaves behind his very good friend, Jeff Meyer.

His family, who loved and cherished him, will remember his life in a private gathering.
