Obituary for Makarand M Vaidya

Makarand Maheshwar Vaidya, 82, passed away on May 9, 2019 in Oklahoma City. He was born on December 30, 1936 in India to Maheshwar and Manorama Vaidya. He was raised in Pune, India. He received his undergraduate degree from Fergusson University and his medical degree from B.J. Medical College. Makarand completed his residency training in anesthesiology in Mumbai, New York City and England, and he was subsequently inducted as a fellow into the Royal College of Surgeons. His sister introduced him to his beloved wife, Kumudini Karve, and they were married in 1965. They lived in New York City, England and Illinois before settling in Chickasha, Oklahoma where they raised their two sons. Makarand worked as an anesthesiologist at Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha where his dedication to his patients and his sense of humor were appreciated by all those who worked with him. He enjoyed listening to music and traveling the world with his wife. He cherished spending time with friends, and he especially loved a great steak and glass of wine. His happiest times were with his treasured grandchildren who always made him light up with a smile. He will always be remembered and loved by all who knew him. Makarand is survived by his wife, Kumudini; his son, Abhay, and wife, Swapna, of Westlake Village, CA; his son, Atul, and wife, Ashwini, of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Elina Vaidya, Anisa Vaidya, Mira Vaidya, and Nikhil Vaidya; two sisters, Usha Vaidya and Asha Gogate; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. In lieu of flowers or gifts, contributions can be made in his memory to the American Heart Association.Viewing and visitation followed by a private cremation will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 10:00 A.M.- 12:00 P.M. at Vondel L. Smith & Sons at South Lakes at 4000 SW 119th St, Oklahoma City. Reception and lunch to follow at Concordia Life Care Community at 7707 W. Britton Road.
