Mary Hazel, 95, changed her address on Saturday, May 25, 2019. She was born June 29, 1923 at her parents’ home in Bailey, Texas. Her parents were John Franklin Bailey and Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Lasater) Bailey. Mary Hazel grew up in Bailey and after graduating from High School in 1941 she moved to Denison, Texas and worked for Kraft Cheese Company making powered eggs for the war department. In 1943 she went to work for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. She met her best friend and her soul mate in late 1943 and on October 5, 1946 she married Melvin Kenneth Neal. In 1956 she transferred to Oklahoma City with the phone company and M.K. went to work with his brother at Oklahoma Packers Hide Company. They were married for 57 years. Mary Hazel enjoyed sewing, crocheting and working with her flowers. In 2005 after M.K.’s death she moved to Tuttle, Oklahoma with her daughter Vickie and her family. Her great niece taught her how to use a round loom to knit hats and over the past several years she made hats for everyone. She made thousands of knit hats for the “needy”. She gave hats to the Amani Children’s Choir from Uganda. Mary Hazel was a faithful servant to her Lord and she loved her family. The family would like to give a special thanks to Integris Hospice House, Dr. Jennifer Semore, Janet Neal Kirby and Sharyl Rumbaugh Boxley for taking care of Mary Hazel.
