Obituary

A Graveside service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, August 9, 2019 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens

Michael “Don” Wilkes, 75, of Dallas, Texas passed away August 6, 2019. He was born April 14, 1944 to Ernest D. “Stick” and Opal Mauldin in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Don married Cheryl Diane Ames on December 2, 1966 at Penn Ave Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. Don spent his first year of school at East Central then went on to graduate from OSU with a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering. During his college years he was a volunteer fire fighter in Stillwater. He was a longtime member of Kiwanis Club in Oklahoma City. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed his hunting trips with his father and son. While his kids were growing up in Edmond, Oklahoma he always took them to Godfather’s Pizza every Saturday and loved playing the basketball game, Horse, in the driveway with all the neighborhood kids. Don especially adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed watching their ball games and other activities. Don could strike up a conversation with anyone and he loved to make people laugh. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Don was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Wilkes; son, Michael Wilkes and wife, Angela; daughter, Lori Nivens; 4 grandchildren, Kaleb Nivens, Katelyn Frank and husband, Brandon, April Wilkes, Destiny Vinson; 2 Great Grandchildren, Papa’s buddy, Landon Frank and Matthew Frank; and longtime friends, Stan & Shirley Metcalf, their children, Dawn & Mindy & their families.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Don. I used to work with Don at Travelers and I could always count on him to lighten the mood with a good joke. No one was a stranger to him. There will never be another man quite like him and his memory will live on forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
