Obituary for Wanda Jo Oakley

Wanda Jo Oakley passed away September 13, 2019 with her loving family at her side at the age of 82. Wanda was a wonderful, caring person who was beloved by everyone who knew her. She was the eldest daughter to AnnaBelle and Gillis Spradley, born January 17, 1937 in Clyde, Texas. With 8 younger siblings, she was part of a very close and loving family grounded in faith. She grew up in Texas and Oklahoma, graduating from Capitol Hill High School in 1955. She pursued a college education at Texas Women’s College and Baylor University School of Dental Hygiene. It was during this time she met the love of her life, her handsome Jim Oakley. The two were engaged shortly before Wanda graduated from Baylor and they married on October 16, 1960 at the Capitol Hill Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They had three children together: Royce, Karen and Roger. Wanda enjoyed working as a Dental Hygienist for over 30 years in Ada, Oklahoma. She was known to her patients as, “The Singing Hygienist” and they would travel lengths to see her. She loved spending time with her family and traveling. She was a devoted Christian apart of the Church of Christ and traveling was always scheduled around worship. After retirement, Jim and Wanda enjoyed traveling and hunting for Fiesta across the U.S. Wanda adored spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed feeding and watching the hummingbirds and other birds return to her birdfeeders year after year. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Grant Oakley; parents, AnnaBelle and Gillis Spradley; and her sisters: Lula Spradley and Jannie Spradley Washington. She leaves behind her 3 children: Royce Oakley (Linda), Karen Duncan (Jeff) and Roger Oakley; her 8 grandchildren: Laura Duncan, Royden Oakley, Stephanie Duncan (Jeff), Jimmie Garen Oakley (Kenna), Jaimie Duncan (Christopher), Katelyn Draper (Riley), Rachel Wilburn (Christopher), and Ansleigh Delacruz (Christopher); her 9 great-grandchildren: Royden Grant Oakley, Sylas Spiegel, Brayleigh Weaver, Elijah Spiegel, Brooks Wilburn, Oakley Draper, Rhettley Draper, Christopher Weaver and Lark Wilburn; her 6 siblings: Daisy Cutter (Winston), H. Lloyd Spradley (Kathryn), Dan Spradley (Cely), Prentice Spradley (Sue), Mark Spradley (Janna), and Carol Hullet (Don); as well as cousins, beloved nieces and nephews, friends and Red Czech Divas.
A memorial service will be held September 19, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Vondel L. Smith on 6934 South Western Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Followed by a 2:30 p.m. service at the Greenhill Cemetery in Davis, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
