Obituary for Deana Vaye Palmer (Irwin)

Deana Vaye Palmer (Deana), beloved wife, mother, Meme and friend, of Oklahoma City passed away December 17, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Deana was born to the late Clayton and Grace Irwin on October 22, 1927 in Ada Oklahoma. She graduated from Ada High School and married her loving husband, Arthur Ray Palmer, in August of 1946. They lived their early years together in Ada, Healdton, Oklahoma City and Duncan. They later settled in Perry, Oklahoma and there they happily raised their two sons. After their youngest son graduated from high school, they relocated to Oklahoma City where they have remained.
Deana is predeceased by her parents and one brother Charles Douglas Irwin. She is survived by her cherished husband of 73 years, Ray, and by her two devoted sons, David Palmer and his wife Dunri of Heston, Kansas and Donald Palmer and his wife Cara of Tulsa. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Amy Lide, Carrie Fettke, Chase Palmer, Gracie Palmer, Lucas Palmer and Cody Palmer. Also, three great grandchildren Taylor Lide, Kolton Felix and Kinedi Fettke.
Deana took great pride in being a stay at home mom and housewife raising her two sons in a loving and nurturing household. She never missed a ball game, wrestling match, school or church function. The boys always left the house with clean and pressed clothes, combed hair, brushed teeth and nourishing sack lunches. Their sports uniforms for games and practice were always clean and ready to go. Birthdays and holidays were special to her and she went all out in making them special for her family. Deana had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She loved to laugh and she was also very wise. There was no pulling the wool over her eyes!
In her later years, at her home of 38 years on Briar Creek Lake, she enjoyed watching the many different birds that came to feed at their feeders and watching the squirrels that played in their beautiful back yard. She became dear friends with loving neighbors and enjoyed their many chats on her back porch.
Deana was immensely proud of her loving husband Ray, her boys and their families and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories for all of them to look back on.
A graveside service and burial will be held on Monday, December 23rd at 11:00am at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Deana’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association of Oklahoma City.
