Dear Mary Kaye, Lauren, Susie and family. My deepest condolences to all of you for the loss of Steve. What a miracle to watch his funeral live-stream this morning at home in Dallas. "The Lord is kind and merciful!" It was a beautiful service. I was so happy I got to see you and Steve when I came back to Oklahoma. Johnny Smircich always kept me posted over the years after playing golf with Steve, as I knew there would always be a funny story! I will always treasure the fun and laughter I had with Steve at St. Mary's and OU. Steve is what legends are made of! May he rest in peace. Amen. Love, John Kennedy

I didn't have the chance to know Steve well, and with the tributes that I've read I'm sorry that I didn't. I do, however, remember shortly after I moved into the neighborhood Steve was kind enough to take my granddaughter Mackenzie to school at St. James while I took a ride in an ambulance to the hospital. I always looked forward to seeing Mary Kaye and Steve at mass. Mackenzie has loved them since she was a toddler and would ask to go sit with Mary Kaye after communion. I am sorry for your loss and hope all of the great memories you share will help you through the grief.

Hart and I played softball together in the 80’s. He had a great laugh and was such a big teddy bear. We’d cut up between games from time to time. He always had great come backs and jokes. Once I thought I would get one on him without a comeback. We were in an out of state tournament and I asked him if Mary Kaye was wearing shorts. He looked at me and slowly turned to look into the stands, slowly looked back and said “No” with a question inflection. I said, bummer, she sure has some good lookin’ legs. He just stared at me like he was mad. I knew he was a big teddy bear but I thought I might have really messed up this time. Scared me! I said “Can I tell you that?” He busted out laughing and for years never let me live it down. I loved that guy!
He’ll be missed.
My deepest condolences to Mary Kaye and family.

I worked with Steve, TURBO, Hartley from around 1987 till I retired in 2001. He always had a thought, a laugh, a joke, he could just make you laugh and forget lots of needless things. He was very dedicated and always willing to try new and different task. He provided the direction and plan to all the outside splicers when Hi-cap circuits were in huge demand. He had that gift of gab to talk to the team and make even the very difficult circuits seem like fun and a challenge. As others have said he was one of a kind and you definitely wanted him on your TEAM. Great person and friend! He will forever be missed. I hope the best for the family and look forward to seeing Steve again, just to hear what ever joke he has to tell!

I also worked with Steve in the SWBT Engineering Dept from 1983 till we both retired. Christmas gift giving was never the same when Steve wasn't in our group. Steve, "Downtown" Ron Brown and I enjoyed going to Coits and getting chili cheese dogs, fries and root beer for lunch. Steve would always make the work day a little easier no matter how tough it was. Condolences to Mary Kay and Lauren.
