Charles Joseph Hedrick was born in Oklahoma City on February 10, 1940, to Merrill and Ina (Phipps) Hedrick. He passed from this life into the arms of the Lord on July 25, 2020. From his early youth, Charles was a lover of music. He was a member of the YMCA boys’ chorus and enjoyed touring with the group. He participated in chorus in junior high school, and also played the clarinet in the school band. In high school Charles was a member of the prestigious Capitol Hill High School concert choir and was also a member of a special performing group. He excelled in tennis and was a two-year letterman. Before high school graduation,Charles made the decision to join the United States Army Reserves, from which he was honorably discharged after serving six years. During this time,he attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1964.He would serve in various corporate accounting positions prior to his retirement.Music would always define a big part of Charles’ life. Although he enjoyed various music genres, he particularly loved Southern gospel.Singing in the Living Waters Quartet in the mid 1960’s was of special enjoyment to him.It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Jeanette Senn. They were married on April 7, 1966, and they would share 54 years of marriage. To this union three sons were born: Charles Nicholas (Chuck), Andrew Joseph (Andy), and Derric Christopher. Charles served as worship leader and choir director in a number of churches. His quiet strength and gentle nature endeared him to many people who worked with him, both at church and in the corporate world. He particularly enjoyed the years the family spent at their property at Lake Eufaula until health concerns and property maintenance made it necessary to sell. He also enjoyed OU football games and Thunder basketball. The Hedrick home became a gathering place for watching the games and sharing food, fellowship, and fun. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette, and his sons: Chuck;Andy and wife Julie of Oklahoma City;and Derric of Norman, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and one great grandson. He has one surviving brother, Bill Hedrick and wife Vera, of Oklahoma City, as well as a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews and a host of friends.Charles will be greatly missed, but the legacy of love and faith he leaves with us will never fade.Services will be privately held in Oklahoma City.
