Obituary for Patricia Jiminez Brooks

Patricia Jimenez Brooks passed away on August 1, 2020. Daughter of Frank and Marguerite Jimenez, Tricia was born on July 28, 1943 in Oklahoma City and had recently celebrated her 77th birthday. Tricia graduated from Northwest Classen High School and went on to study Spanish at the University of Oklahoma. She earned her Masters of Education degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. Over the course of her 55 year career in education, Tricia touched the lives of thousands of students at levels ranging from teens in middle school to adults in higher education. Her first teaching job out of college was in Vinita, OK. She subsequently taught at Northeast High School and later returned to her alma mater to teach language at Northwest Classen. Soon she transitioned into teaching English as a second language at the Mexican American Cultural Center in Capitol Hill and eventually made the move to higher education at Oklahoma City Community College where she found her passion in helping adults learn Spanish and assisting international students with their English skills. She served as a professor of modern languages for 30 years at OCCC taking students to Mexico, Spain, and Ecuador to study Spanish abroad. She was named outstanding faculty member in 2009. In 1986 during the Amnesty program, she and her mother, Marguerite, started a school at Little Flower Catholic Church to help people learn English and Citizenship and soon built the largest program in the State of Oklahoma. She then saw a need in the Latino community for healthcare and started a free clinic at Little Flower with the help of volunteer doctors and community members. For this, she and her mother received the “Five Who Care” recognition from KOCO in 1991. She and her family were members of St. James Catholic Church. Tricia is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Marguerite Jimenez, her brother, Rudy Jimenez and step-son, David Brooks. She is survived by her brothers Frank Jimenez of Estes Park, CO and Matthew “Nick” Jimenez of Oklahoma City, OK; husband, Harold “Bud” Brooks of Oklahoma City, OK; her children: Michael Brooks-Jimenez and wife, Jessica; Rebecca Lane and husband, David; Aimee Russell and husband, Kris, all of Oklahoma City, OK; and grandchildren: Sarah, Zachary, Isabella, Savannah, Allison, Joaquin, Nathan, Lucy and Maddie and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Dr. George and her team at Stephenson Cancer Center, Crystal and Jada with Lifespring Home Health and Accentra Hospice for their exceptional care. Viewing will be 4-8 PM Tuesday August 4th and 4-6:30 PM Wednesday, August 5th prior to the 6:30 PM Rosary Service Wednesday, August 5th at Vondel Smith at South Lakes. Funeral mass will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 6, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 4201 S. McKinley. Friends may leave condolences at www.vondelsmithmortuary.com.
