Obituary for Sherry White

Sherry, 72, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday September 1st, 2020. Sherry was born to Vance and Norma Dow on Sunday June 13, 1948 in Perryton, Texas. She married David White, August 6th, 1965 at Midway Church a few miles from the family farm outside of Fairview, Oklahoma. Her family was always the center of her life. David and Sherry welcomed three sons; Tim in 1968, Jeff in 1970, and Chad in 1981. Throughout their 55 years of marriage Sherry was a dedicated wife, and mother. She also served faithfully in full time ministry alongside David. Together they pastored churches in Fairview, Oklahoma, Fritch and Dumas Texas, Alva and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. During their ministry time Sherry impacted countless lives of young girls, women and other pastor’s wives. She was always available with godly wisdom, an encouraging word or a shoulder to cry on. In 1994, she graduated at the top of her class from Northwestern Oklahoma State University with her teaching certificate, and a specialization in Special Education. It was her desire to not just to be a teacher, but to share the love of Christ in every classroom with every student, and with every teacher and administrator. She taught students in rural and inner city schools gaining the respect and admiration of farm kids, and gang members alike. She refused to retire at 65, because she could not abandon her mission field, where she was working. She truly felt that God had called her to reach the students and educators where she was teaching. In May 2020, she retired, at 71, from teaching after 26 years in the classroom.

Her family was always the central focus of her life. She was blessed with ten grandchildren, Kamber, Ashlie, Bethany, Haylie, Jordan, Tanner Dixon, Madison, Adrian, Millie and Moxie. All who love their Nana and miss her dearly. Her grandchildren have blessed her with five great grandchildren, Jude and Elijah Martinez, Evelyn Joy and Vance White, and Maybree Little. Her grandchildren enjoyed many summers of grandbaby vacations, visiting amusement parks, zoos, lakes, and taking float trips. But most of all they just wanted to be at Nana’s house. She adored them and they adored her. She taught them to love God, to love one another and to have as much fun along the way as possible. The older grands enjoyed sledding down the stairs and going down the laundry chute at her house in Alva. In Oklahoma City, she taught them the value of hard work as they picked up limbs and sticks in the backyard, after Oklahoma thunderstorms. She always rewarded them generously for their help. Many years, at the end of the summer, she would make a point to visit her grandkids, or have them visit her so she could take them school shopping. She is a part of all of them and they are her most precious fruit and greatest legacy.

On September 1st, 2020 at 7:05pm Sherry was welcomed to heaven by her parents, Vance and Norma Dow, a sister, Sue Graham, a grandson, Tanner Dixon White, and a great granddaughter, Evelyn Joy White.

Her husband, David White, children, Tim & JaNa White, Jeff and Stephanie White, Chad and Sarah White, grandchildren and great grandchildren remain here to carry on her legacy of loving God, loving one another, loving others and reaching everyone possible with the love of Jesus Christ. Her remaining siblings, Jan and Dennis Voth, Steve and Yvonne Dow, and Keith and Jerri Baker, and numerous nieces and nephews also remain as a testament to Sherry’s love of family.
