Obituary for Marie Elizabeth Ross (Algozini)

Marie Elizabeth Ross was born in Long Island, New York on October 7, 1954 and was set free from the fetters of this life on December 7, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Marie lived her school years in New York City, then ventured to Colorado to experience a life of adventure, filled with fishing, camping and music. It was there that she met Ernie Ross and had two sons, Warden and TJ. Although the two would go their separate ways, Ernie and Marie remained lifelong friends. In her quest for adventure, she lived in many places, eventually settling in Oklahoma to be close to the family she loved.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dorothy Algozini, her brother Richard, and Ernie Ross, mentioned previously. She is survived by her oldest son Warden of Oklahoma City and youngest son, Thomas and his wife Kelley Ross of Piedmont, OK. She also leaves love behind to her five grandchildren, Carson and Samuel of Oklahoma City and Aubrey, Abygail and Levi, of Piedmont.
Those that know and love Marie describe her as a special combination of fire and spunk while still dedicated to making those around her feel accepted and at ease. Her relentless spirit allowed her to enjoy life and yet be prepared to go to war in a moment to defend those she loved.
Her zest for living was filled with a love for good music (that demands good lyrics and harmony). This passion led to a large record collection. Her spontaneous, adventurous nature allowed her to go camping without knowing exactly where camp would be pitched. Marie lived in many houses and places and made them all feel like home. She was an excellent cook and [selectivelywink*wink] shared her family’s homemade sauce recipe to be savored by generations to follow.
Marie had the gift of making normal days special. Recently, her grandchildren visited her for her birthday. Because of COVID precautions, the visit had to be made from outside the window, talking via telephone. Even in that circumstance, the loving grandmother took the stage and entertained her loved ones with her energy and spark.
Marie was the kind of friend that everyone wants to have and the kind of friend that everyone should aspire to be. While many of us rest on good intentions, Marie actively connected with lifelong friends regularly until the end of her life. Inherently interested in people, her routine included reading all of the obituaries in the Sunday paper, remarking on the lives described there, pausing on some to say, “That sounds like the sort of person I’d like to know”.
Perhaps you are reading this now and thinking the same thing, and you are right. Marie Ross was a good person to know and one whose free spirit, fire and zest for living is something we should all embrace. Days ago, she lay in a bed, tethered by hoses and confined to a bed. Surrounded by the boys she loved so much, the hoses were removed, the machines silenced, and she breathed her last. Yes, now she is free.
A celebration of life will be planned when circumstances allow for safe participation. In lieu of flowers, just send some ❤️ & ☮ out there.
