Hugh went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at the age of 92. The son of Sidney & Evinda (Coltom) Thompson, he was born June 9, 1928 in Durand, Wisconsin. He graduated from Pepin High School before joining the United States Army and honorably served his country from September of 1950 to March of 1957. On September 4, 1954, Hugh married his one true love, Gertrude “Trudy” Livingston and together they shared 66 years of marriage. The two were blessed with 4 children. In addition to being a loving husband, devoted father and doting grandfather, he also worked as a signalman for the Burlington Northern Railroad Company for 42 years, and also was a certified electrician. Following his retirement from Burlington Northern he moved to Oklahoma to assume the duties of campground caretaker for the Oklahoma District United Pentecostal Church. He was a devoted member of the Winona Gospel Church of Winona, Minnesota until he moved to Oklahoma City where he became a faithful member of Southern Oaks United Pentecostal Church until his passing. He was also a member of the Railroad Signalman Brotherhood. Hugh enjoyed traveling to U.P.C.I. conferences and fellowship meetings. When a resident of Wisconsin he looked forward to small and big game hunting seasons. Hugh Thompson was devoted to God and taught his family to love God first and others second. His life impacted many in Winona and in Oklahoma City as he led church bus ministries in both locations. He was generous in giving to his churches, missions and in the form of alms to those who were less fortunate. His work ethic, prayer life and faithfulness to church is etched in the memory of all who knew him. Hugh and Trudy Thompson were inseparable throughout their married life up to the day of his passing. For the last year and a half they stayed together in the care of Timberwood Memory Care.
