Obituary

Viewing will be 4-8 PM Tuesday, December 15, 2020, with the family greeting friends from 6-8PM and Wednesday, December 16, 2020, from 8 AM to 5 PM.

A celebration of life for Mr. Cecil Brown will be 2 PM Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Bethesda Church, 3101 SW 89th St, Oklahoma City.

Cecil L. Brown was born in Cogar, OK, on June 13, 1933 to Earnest and Ora Brown.
He received his heavenly reward on December 11, 2020. Cecil Brown married Charlene Lancaster on December 21, 1951. They were married for 55 years, until her passing on December 8, 2007. Cecil Brown served in the Army from April 1953 – April 1955. He was stationed at Fort Chaffee, Fort Smith, Arkansas. After the military he became a minister for the Assemblies of God. He evangelized for several years before becoming a pastor. He pastored at Fort Smith Assembly of God, Guthrie Assembly of God, and Comanche Assembly of God. He was the Senior Pastor at Southwest/Abundant Life in OKC for over 25 years. He was honored in 2008 for 50 years as an Assembly of God minister. Our Pastor Brown could be described as a “Prince among men.” He walked with class, his shoulders straight, no matter how he felt, or the situation. He greeted everyone with a smile and a handshake, or until recently, a fist bump. He has sat through many a surgery for family and church members and made a million, maybe more, hospital visits during his lifetime. We do not know how many children he dedicated, how many people he baptized, how many weddings he performed, or how many funerals he preached. He was a man of character – someone who was the same at church, as he was outside of church. He has made a mark on so many lives, his legacy lives on.

He was preceded in death by his:
Parents, Earnest and Ora Brown,
Brother, Marvin Brown,
Wife, Charlene Brown.

Cecil is survived by his:
Sisters, Juanita Goff, Valdene Clay, and husband Leo;
Sisters-in-law, Lorene Harpole, Connie Tribble and husband John;
Brother-in-law, Johnny Lancaster, and wife Judy;
Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Bro. Brown was my Pastor from the time I was 2 years old. I would have to admit that was 51 years to be exact! What an AMAZING example he and Sis. Brown set for everyone that knew him!
When I was a child, if I woke up in the middle of the night and was upset or feeling bad, I couldn't go back to sleep until I heard his voice and him pray for me. Then it was all better and I could rest again! Bless their hearts, they didn't get much sleep because of those frequent late night calls. And how in the world does someone wake up out of a deep sleep n sound so wonderful. He was a treasured person and I know my rearing was better because of it!
He stayed in my home when we pastored in Loco, (closest to Ringling, OK). It was truly one of my most fondest memories in my life and we all laughed so hard we hurt that week! 000 that, all the times that I would see him after he reminded me "Young Lady, you still are the only persons home in all of our travels that we ever stayed at". I would almost cry because that was the sweetest thing to my heart.
He is met back up with his wife and a ton of friends and family who have gone on before him. It does make me so happy that I can see him again but sad for now. It just gives me another reason to go to Heaven for!
Thank you Bro. Brown! I guess I can let you off the hook for not preaching my funeral (I asked him about every time I saw him for the last few years in tears)!
I will miss your humor and advice and wisdom and the example of a life well lived!
Much love,
Rhonda McCalip Johnson!
PS: Yes I'll be happy to play Living By Faith again for you gladly!k

Janice and I have known Bro. Brown for over 40 years. He was, to me, the epitome of a man of God. He loved God...Sis. Brown...the people of God...and the work of God. With his life, he set an example for all of us to follow. Though he would not say it, I believe his qualifications were such, he could have said, "Follow me as I follow Christ." Though it's been several months since I saw him, I know he was involved in the work of the Lord until the very end. In our final conversation, he told me he was still driving around 200 miles a week in visitation and ministry. He was busy in the work of God...but never seemed rushed. He always had time to share in a conversation, and make a person feel you had his complete attention. I have said of Bro. and Sis. Brown...you can't mention one without including the other--and though she has been gone for several years--I'm sure they had a reunion in heaven, and are now rejoicing in the presence of the Lord. -- Martin L. Pastor Brown and his wife were absolutely the greatest mentors our family has ever known. He always loved unconditionally, A man of integrity and consistency without compromise. He always kept his eyes on the goal and finished his course having mentored hundreds of Pastors, Missionaries, Teachers, Church Leaders, Professionals, and thousands of church members. He was always there to visit the sick. What a comfort to wake up after surgery and see him standing there beside my family. His investment in the youth has resulted in Ministries around the world. What a privilege it was to serve with Pastor and Sister Brown for many years as their Associates.
We Love You Pastor Brown and Sister Brown
We’ll see you soon.
