Obituary for Bob Hunter Jr.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be 12 PM Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Franklin Baptist Church, 7327 E. Franklin Rd. Norman, Oklahoma.
Bob just celebrated his 100th birthday last week with his family. Bob Hunter Jr. was the first-born son of Oscar Owen “Bob Sr.”. Hunter and Gertrude Emma “Tutor” Hunter. Born, raised, & educated in and around Wynnewood, Oklahoma Bob had a life filled with love and adventure – fishing, hunting, and exploring with his Grandpa Sam Tutor and being educated in one room schoolhouses often taught by his parents. Bob served in the US Navy during WWII. In his early 20s Bob accepted forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life through Jesus Christ. This personal encounter with Jesus transformed Bob’s life, impacted every decision he would make, and laid a tremendous foundation for generations to come.
He met & married the love of his life – Ethel Marie Brewer and they were blessed with adoring daughters – Suzanne Elizabeth and Bobbie Jean. Bob’s primary occupation was as a Rural Route Carrier for the US Postal Service. Bob & Marie raised their girls to love the Lord Jesus Christ and serve Him. Bob & Marie were actively involved at Wilmont Place Baptist Church serving in almost every imaginable capacity – cooking, cleaning, serving, ministering. They gave, and gave, and gave some more.
After Bob’s first wife, Marie, entered into the presence of the Lord, he began to take some fishing trips with a fine lady that could not only fish but made great pies. Bob seized the opportunity to love again and married Ida Mary “Williams” Barton. Bob & Ida Mary served at Wilmont, fished, played cards, and traveled. While both Bob & Ida Mary missed their first spouses tremendously, they truly loved & cared for each other and were a blessing to each other.
Bob loved his friends and had a ton of them – he loved to fish, hunt, take care of people, cook meals, and throw parties. He worked everyone around him to death with his generosity and hospitality. He would drive to Colorado to bring home a truck load of cantaloupes to give away. He planted a peach orchard that operated at a loss for over a decade because he gave all of the best crops to his friends.
If you didn’t know Bob, you missed out in this life. If you don’t know Jesus, you’ll miss out in the life to come.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Don Hunter & Margie Daniels, wife, Marie Hunter, his sons-in-law Darrel Rains & Brady Parsons, and his second wife, Ida Mary Barton.
Bob is survived by his daughters Suzanne Rains & Bobbie Parsons, his grandchildren Nathan & Betsy Rains, Mark & Amy Wood, Brent & Keely Parsons, and Chad and Amanda Isaacs. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Madison Rains, Chris & Taylor Wilson, Caleb Rains, Joshua Rains, Daniel Rains, Matthew Wood, Anna Wood, Crissa Wood, Hunter Parsons, Hattie Parsons, Maebree Parsons, Blake Isaacs, Ben Isaacs, & Maggie Isaacs.
