Obituary for Jodean Martin (McGuffin)

Jodean McGuffin Martin’s earthly arrival was on November 20, 1920 in Jackson County, OK and her heavenly departure was on December 28, 2020 at the age of 100. She was the patient wife of Kenneth V. Martin (deceased). Mother of four children, Kenna Denson(deceased), Mac Martin(wife Mary), Vicky Noakes(husband Don) & Ricki Harned(husband John). She was a Nanny to seven, Lori Ekrut(husband Jeff), Cody Roberts, Morgan Martin(wife Macey), Scott (wife Kathleen) & Stacy Noakes, Ray Belcher(wife Lacie) & Chris Harned. She was a Great Nanny to seven, Paige Morgan, Raigen McMullen(husband Tyler), Kailey Canada(husband Kenstan), Cannon Belcher, Channing Belcher, Cahn Belcher, Corbin Belcher, Andrew Noakes and was also a Great Great Nanny to two, Arianna Morgan & Gunnar McMullen. Jodean was the daughter of Joseph Walter McGuffin and Ollie Mae (McCombs) McGuffin and big sister to four brothers, Donald, Orvis, LaDarryl, & Kenneth McGuffin(all deceased).

Jodean and Kenneth married on January 16, 1942 and were married for 55 years. During those years she worked as a teacher, raised a family in Martha, Oklahoma, enjoyed working with the flowers in her yard, fishing, playing forty-two dominos, painting, collecting and refinishing antiques, and surviving breast cancer in 1998. She loved people and cherished the opportunity to help others.

After the death of her husband and living on the farm in Martha for 49 years she moved to the Oklahoma City Baptist Retirement Village in 2001 to be closer to her family for the last nineteen years of her life. She made a promise to her kids “I will not be a problem to my children in my old age” and she wasn’t. All of the major decisions that had to be made she made on her own. They may have been hard for her but she never let it show and she did it willingly with a very positive attitude on the change and always with the guidance from God.

She was always very proud and fascinated by her family’s genealogy and she spent the last fifty years of her life researching and collecting stories about the families. She finished a family history book on the Martin family and was working on one for the McGuffin family. She was the glue that demanded we keep the family close. Our holidays were always very special and full of love. Her faith was reflected in her everyday life as a caring & loving soul. She will be remembered and missed by family and friends as a gift God gave us all.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Lackey Manor Nursing Home for their love and care of Jodean in her last days.

A family memorial service will be held in the Martha Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers, Jodean requested donations be made to the upkeep of the Corinth Cemetery in Blair, Oklahoma.
