Obituary for James Neal Claborn

James "Neal" Claborn passed away Oklahoma City on June 5, 2016, at the age of 88. Neal was born in Seminole, Oklahoma on March 9, 1928, to Gertrude and Vest Claborn. When he was 12, they moved to Oklahoma City where he attended Central High School and met the love of his life, Zella Mae Roberson, at the skating rink. After serving in the Army Air Force, Neal and Zella married and had two sons, Robert and Phil. Neal worked at the US Post Office and Taylor Evans before buying Photo Plus. He enjoyed camping, boating, waterskiing, and sports with his family. Neal and Zella were thrilled to have five grandsons (and certainly told everyone that) but had to wait for their first great grandchild to have a girl! Neal was also excited to have two great grandsons!
After 61 years of marriage, Zella passed away with Neal by her side.
Neal was a faithful man - faithful to his wife and family, faithful to his church, and faithful to his friends. He surprised many people when he asked if he could give them a hug! Neal was fortunate to develop a close relationship with Gavon Mosher, a wonderful woman who made his later years so happy.
He was preceded in death by his wife Zella Mae, his sisters Billye Marie Allen and Suzi Lowe. "Grandad" is survived and deeply loved by son Robert and his wife Becky, son Phil and his wife JoAnn; grandsons Cory and wife Courtney, Preston and wife Kayleigh, Kyle and wife Ashley, Baret, Kevin and wife Sarah; great grandchildren Ella, Drew, and Caleb.
We will all miss him asking "Can I give you a hug?"!
